Local Amenities
As well as the many national and international
events in the region, there are also several things to do in the immediate
vicinity.
The village picnic is held every summer (4th June 2006) at "l'Espace Culturel Louis Derbré d'Ernée", where you will be surrounded by the various sculptures created by Louis Derbré, who lived and worked in Paris for many years before returning to his home town of Ernée. Take your own food (although there are usually BBQ's and beer tents!) and be entertained throughout the afternoon by acts from as far away as Paris. Games for the children and music from local groups are also provided. Louis Derbré's factory is also close by if you want to see how the sculptures are made, and maybe even meet the man himself.

Also during the summer there are numerous
musical festivals held in most of the villages and towns. In Ernée it
is planned for Friday 16th June 2006. If you fancy a relaxed evening,
this is an ideal event. All types of music from Traditional folk, to
bongo drums to keyboards are to be found along the streets of the town,
which are closed to traffic for the event. Wander about at your leisure, stopping
to take a drink (or two) at the various bars which stay open until after
midnight for the event.

From the 10th to the 24th June there
is also an exhibition of art which is open to the public from 2pm to
7pm every day. Local amatuer artists display their arts and crafts for
everyone to see, and Louis Derbré sponsors the exhibition, also inviting
famous artisans to attend and comment.
To celebrate Bastille day (14th July),
there will be a display of fireworks at the town lake the day before,
Thursday 13th July. This is well worth attending with the spectacular
reflections on the water together with background music making
an evening to remember.
.In addition to the organised events,
there are also the usual amenities to be found in the town. Heated indoor
swimming pool, cinema, church, supermarkets and shops, bars, restuarants
etc.
.
"Magellan" bar/tabac has recently changed owners and is now run by a friendly and welcoming Frenchman by the name of Jean-Marie. Meals are served at lunchtime and there is a big screen tv showing music or sport. Don't want to miss "the match", ask Jean-Marie if he will put it on for you! Wifi and internet access is also available. Customers can have 30 minutes free browsing after which there is a small charge of 3 euros for one hour or 2 euros for two hours.
. The local park has activities for the
children, including an assault course, boule courts, archery range and
bmx track. If you fancy a day "at the seaside" a small man-made beach
is in nearby Fougeres forest - a great way to spend a hot summers day
without expense.
![]() There are numerous historical buildings in the centre of the town, whilst, on the outskirts, there are miles of country walks and cycle routes. For the fisherman, there is the river Ernée as well as the local lake. (Lakes can be found in most of the surrounding villages and can be fished for a very small fee. If you want further information please ask us as Alan is a keen fisherman and will probably be able to help, or visit our Vaudrennes page if you are interested in carp fishing.) The nearest golf course is about 20km away just outside the large town of Laval and is a 27 hole course.
Market day in Ernée is on a Tuesday morning
and, although not large, gives an insight into the French way of life.
