About Us

Canda House, (not to be confused with Canada House) stands for Chris and Alan, and is a family run B&B in the Mayenne department of France.

We moved to France in August 2004 and spent a year renovating our property which is situated in the heart of the Mayenne in the small French market town of Ernée. Sited in a protected zone, we have maintained the exterior appearance of our old station building together with some of the original internal features. It was a year of hard work and mishaps, but also a lot of fun. We have also met and become friends with several French people who have gone out of their way to help us (officials included).

We are only about a five minute drive from the centre of the town of Ernee with its market, fetes, shops, bars and other amenities, but only a couple of minutes walk to the heart of the French countryside. The best of both worlds.

It took a little while to get used to the two hour lunch break (no popping to the shop between 12 and 2pm, except the supermarket) but they make up for it by opening until later in the evening. Sitting at a pavement cafe or bar drinking coffee (or something stronger) during the day has become normal.

Whatever the reason for your vist to the area - holiday, short break or overnight stop - we are in an ideal location. If we can help in any way, we will. Definitely a more relaxed and enjoyable way of life.
